Well, here's some quick reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election,_2012 Glad that page is there- I haven't heard anything about the oncoming elections since Trump withdrew. However, I (and probably some other Dutch people) am/are surprised that everyone's already looking forward to this one and a half years in advance. Or maybe that's because the last election the Dutch had was because the cabinet fell due to differences over Afghanistan. We had elections in about 3-4 months after that, but the new cabinet was only truly composed in October. But eh, back to the topic. I doubt Newt will make it- I heard he's got problems with his past record. If Palin will run, I bet that's only going to swing the vote in Obama's favor. As for the rest, the only names I recognize are Santorum and Romney- probably one of those. Or Jimmy McMillan's facial hair (which looks totally AWESOME!) @ Kyraina: Don't see Huckabee on the wiki page

Yay! I will be able to vote by 2012.
Though I want someone else as president, I doult that any of the Republican (or any other) canadidates will win against Obama. Unless something happens in the near future, like the economy or somethig else.

@ Kyraina: Ron Paul seems to be too fringe to convincingly run. As for Palin, I'm more or less sure that if she gets the Republican ticket, Obama wins by a giant margin. It does not help that she breathed life back into the stereotype that Americans know nothing about geography.
The more I read about this issue, the more of an idea I get that Romney will pose the biggest challenge to Obama.

I think Romney is probably the safest bet for the Republicans. Huckabee and Santorum are too socially conservative for most people. Ron Paul I like but he isn't conservative enough for most republicans. Tim Pawlenty is too nice. Sarah Palin may not run now that Michele Bachmann is in the race. Herman Cain isn't experienced enough. Romney and Paul have both come close to Obama in the polls. Rudy Giuliani has actually led Obama in numerous polls but it is unknown if he will run or not.
